From the 1973 original movie production, Yvonne Elliman sings ‘I Dont Know How To Love Him’ Note:This scene is shot in low light and candles. It’s supposed to be dark. ~Ric~ Lyrics: …Close your eyes close your eyes and forget all about us tonight. MARY MAGDALENE: I don’t know how to love him. What to do, how to move him. I’ve been changed, yes really changed. In these past few days, when I’ve seen myself, I seem like someone else. I don’t know how to take this. I don’t see why he moves me. He’s a man. He’s just a man. And I’ve had so many men before, In very many ways, He’s just one more. Should I bring him down? Should I scream and shout? Should I speak of love, Let my feelings out? I never thought I’d come to this. What’s it all about? Don’t you think it’s rather funny, I should be in this position. I’m the one who’s always been So calm, so cool, no lover’s fool, Running every show. He scares me so. I never thought I’d come to this. What’s it all about? Yet, if he said he loved me, I’d be lost. I’d be frightened. I couldn’t cope, just couldn’t cope. I’d turn my head. I’d back away. I wouldn’t want to know. He scares me so. I want him so. I love him so.

Overflowing with emotion. Superb. That her voice struggles a bit when transitioning between registers simply enriches the output.

  8. I’ve heard so many versions of this from Salonga to Brightman. Nothing beats the original. You don’t have to have a super high or strong voice to make a memorable sound recording.

It just takes a unique perfect voice for that perfect composition.

Again, nothing beats the original. (Except for Bananarama’s Venus version…just joking.)

I remember being 16 and in love with Yvonne Elliman, I’m 47 now and still in love with her voice.

I just saw JCS live in Nanaimo, BC, with Ted Neely still playing the part of Jesus. Small guy but ‘plenty power.’
SARAH HANLON is taking the role of Mary. Very nice voice and well worth seeing live. Dynamic cast. Judas played by JOHN TWIFORD has an awesome voice.
Go see the live play if you can. Just google it to find out where its touring next. Amazing to see such a big cast these days and very reasonalby priced.
The band playing in the pit was awesome too.
